The Desert of this Spring
Ephrem Feeley,
Janèt Sullivan Whitaker
For use during Easter and Lent, the lyrics of this title focus on the suffering and feeling of abandonment that Christ experienced during his time in the garden. They encourage us to confront our own personal struggles with feeling alone and the constant temptations from Satan. Later verses reveal to us how we must strive to turn away from sin, accept Christ, and follow our Savior. Using AABA phrase construction, the melody is brief yet memorable and sits in a comfortable key; it will be easily learned by choirs and congregations alike. The choral treatment for SATB choir and descant is harmonically rich, yet elegantly simple and will be accessible to most programs.
