On Eagle's Wings
Mirroring the deepest longings of the human heart, the Psalms are a collection of religious poems through which Jews and Christians address their God, comfort themselves in despair and express their jubilation. Composed to be a contribution to musical psalmody for contemporary Christian worshipers, On Eagle's Wings offers a myriad of psalms and canticles that are adaptable to a wide variety of musical styles, from stirring choral anthems and blues/gospel stylings to the intimacy of a single voice and a guitar.
Featuring the most popular rendition of Psalm 91 ever written ("On Eagle's Wings") along with 11 other beautiful psalm settings, this collection reflects the composer's sensitivity and gift for interpretation of psalm texts. Selections are a blend of guitar, keyboard, brass, choir and Michael's expressive voice.
All of the psalm settings on the collection include a refrain that the assembly should find easy to sing. Although the psalm verses are typically reserved for the cantor or choir, in most cases they may also be sung by the full assembly once they become familiar with them.
"The psalms have nurtured and formed my own spiritual life. I hope that you will find...at least one moment of spiritual insight that will draw you into prayer." —Michael Joncas
