Bio

Owen Alstott was born in 1947 and grew up with his family in Oregon. In 1961, he entered Mt. Angel Seminary where he did his high school studies, his college degree in philosophy and his post-graduate studies in theology. During this time, he also attended Willamette University in Salem for lessons in pipe organ performance. In 1973, after his studies in theology were complete, he began studying music history, theory and composition at Marylhurst College in Lake Oswego.

In 1975, Owen began working at OCP, renewing and upgrading its liturgical music offerings. He worked in various positions at OCP, including assistant music editor, music editor, editor of missal publications and finally, publisher. Owen left OCP in 1992 and moved to London, England.

There he began a small publishing company, Viewpoint Resources Direct, which created, published and distributed religious education materials used throughout the United Kingdom. Owen closed the company and retired just before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Owen is married to the internationally known composer, liturgist, speaker and author Bernadette Farrell. The couple have one daughter, Joanna Alstott.
