Anointing
ValLimar's second and latest album is a good-time celebration of old-time spirituals. Featuring ramped-up versions of "Ezekiel Saw the Wheel," "Wade in the Water" and other classics, these ten tracks burst with the energy and passion of a live performance.
Breathless dance mixes, reflective ballads
Taking advantage of the latest recording technologies, the disc turns fast-tempo songs into breathless dance mixes with layers of samples and synthesized percussion. The more reflective tracks showcase the sublime artistry of this gifted vocalist.
Guest appearance by the famous Edwin Hawkins Singers
Several tracks feature the famous Edwin Hawkins Singers. Founded in 1967 and winners of four Grammy Awards, the group is one of the most celebrated gospel choirs in the country. Like her debut, this disc was produced in Los Angeles by the one-and-only Ted Perlman (Chicago, Elton John, and others). Frank Jansen, ValLimar's talented husband, plays keyboard.
Snippets from Dr. King, Gandhi and Dorothy Day
"Walk Together Children" includes ValLimar reciting the words of Dorothy Day, Oscar Romero and Gandhi between verses, as well as snippets from Dr. King's historic "I Have a Dream" speech. The offbeat emphasis in "Keep Your Mind on God's Love" gives it a relaxed, reggae feel.
Bob Dylan cover, song from "O Brother, Where Art Thou"
Those familiar with the film "O Brother, Where Art Thou" and its best-selling soundtrack will recognize the joyful "Softly and Tenderly Medley." Her cover of Bob Dylan's "Gotta Serve Somebody" could make you forget it was ever anything but a stirring, R&B-style song.
Medley of two classics, closes with "Amazing Grace"
"Steal Away Medley" is a brilliant combination of "Steal Away to Jesus" and "Deep River." ValLimar alternates verses and melodies from the two songs as if they were one. The album closes with a stunning new arrangement of "Amazing Grace."
Clothes these classic hymns in a lush, modern sound
African-American spirituals capture the Gospel in a distinct and colorful way. Clothing them in a lush, modern sound, Anointing is a fantastic new way to rediscover these unique Christian hymns -- and an impressive new release from "the best singer in the choir."
