Preface: About this time last year, OCP announced its partnership with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in support of the Fifth National Encuentro of Hispanic/Latino Ministry (V Encuentro). As we near the end of summer, efforts for the V Encuentro continue to move forward: regional and diocesan teams have been formed and trained, and a guide with five sessions and missionary activities has been developed. These materials are designed to help in the formation of your V Encuentro Parish Team as we move toward the official launch of the V Encuentro process in January 2017. Access them at vencuentro.org.

The Fifth National Encuentro of Hispanic/Latino Ministry (V Encuentro) is just around the corner. Beginning on January 2017, thousands of parishes, lay ecclesial movements and Catholic organizations will participate in the evangelizing process of the V Encuentro under the theme: Missionary Disciples: Witnesses of God’s Love.

The V Encuentro is an initiative of the U.S. Bishops designed to revitalize ministry among Hispanics/Latinos over the course of the next four years. This pastoral renewal is inspired by the call of Pope Francis to be a Church reaching out, that is, a missionary church that is not afraid to take the first step, get involved, accompany, bear fruit and celebrate with joy our Catholic Faith.

One key objective of the V Encuentro is to engage second and third generation Hispanic/Latino youth and young adults, as they represent the largest segment of the Catholic population in the United States. Another objective is to motivate the emergence of 20,000 new leaders ready to serve the entire church as missionary disciples.
