Bio
Bob Hurd ha sido maestro, compositor y liturgista en diversos ámbitos pastorales y académicos, como la Universidad de Loyola Marymount en Los Ángeles, la Escuela Franciscana de Teología en Berkeley y el Seminario de San Patricio en Menlo Park, California. En la actualidad, es profesor del programa en Ministerios Pastorales en la Universidad de Santa Clara.
Bob Hurd comenzó su carrera como compositor poco después del Concilio Vaticano II, cuando surgió la necesidad de contar con nuevas melodías en lengua vernácula. De esta manera, comenzó a componer música para la liturgia hace más de 45 años. Bob Hurd ha sido un pionero en la música bilingüe y multicultural, con composiciones como "Pan de Vida" y Misa de las Américas.
Inspirado por la encíclica Laudato Si' del Papa Francisco, Our Common Home reúne cantos de liturgia y oración de reconocidos compositores OCP que traten sobre temas como nuestra responsabilidad con el medio ambiente, la pobreza y la solidaridad. Después de escribir "Every Creature Is Sister and Brother" (un canto que resalta la relación entre la Eucaristía y la preocupación ambiental), decidió invitar a más compositores a escribir cantos inspirados por Laudato Si': Sobre el cuidado de la casa común. La colección presenta composiciones de Jaime Cortez, Ricky Manalo, CSP y Rufino Zaragoza, OFM, entre otros.
Gracias a su trayectoria musical y académica, Bob Hurd ha escrito para publicaciones como: Worship, Liturgy, Celebration, Liturgical Ministry, Today’s Liturgy, Catechumenate y Pastoral Music. Ha colaborado también en los siguientes libros: That They Might Have Life: Power, Empowerment and Leadership in the Church (Crossroads, 1991), The New Dictionary of Catholic Spirituality (Liturgical Press, 1993), The Song of the Assembly (Pastoral Press, 2007) y recientemente en The Heart of Our Music (Liturgical Press, 2015).
Bob vive en Claremont, California con su esposa Pia Moriarty, quien ha colaborado con él en mucha de su música bilingüe.
